Will we stop writing?
'In pre-industrial times, most people's jobs made them strong, today if you want to be strong you have to work out'. A friend of mine mentioned this in a conversation. This made me think about writing and how we process words. I am fortunate enough to be part of a committee that selects students for scholarships in Niger, the UWC national Committee. We read hundreds of applications every year.
And it became evident that the writing style of the candidates are in two main categories, one is really good and very similar, and the second one is just bad. the first categorie, one can notice that there is generative AI involved. Before AI, because the questions were specific enough the answers must be written by the students or they could pay a professional to do them. not anymore. writing is now a choice and you have to choose to enter this process.
I myself use ChatGPT all the time and so now I am thinking, will we just stop writing?
I built this whole CMS system so that I can start writing. Weekly, monthly, or yearly even. But why I would write. I am 100% certain that no one but me will read these entries. these are more reasons why I should write perhaps. A small escape from my brain into something private but not so much, my personal website.
Now if amidst all that you happen to find this, well my friend, I welcome you to my humble abode, my brain. These essays are probably the only ones I will write without ever using any type of the AI system, without caring much for grammar and since they are not meant for an audience without putting much effort in trying to impress.
This will be my workout to be a better writer, and in doing so I hope I will become a better thinker.
